Predicting Drug Approvals: The Novartis Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Challenge

نویسندگان

چکیده

We describe a novel collaboration between academia and industry, an in-house data science artificial intelligence challenge held by Novartis to develop machine learning models for predicting drug development outcomes, building upon research at MIT using from Informa® as the starting point. Over 50 cross-functional teams 25 offices around world participated in challenge. The domain expertise of these researchers was leveraged create predictive with greater sophistication, two developed that outperformed baseline model through state-of-the-art algorithms use newly incorporated features data. In addition validating variables shown be associated approval earlier study, also provided new insights into drivers success failure.

Challenge Problems for Artificial Intelligence

AI textbooks and papers often discuss the big questions, such as “how to reason with uncertainty”, “how to reason efficiently”, or “how to improve performance through learning .” It is more difficult, however, to find descriptions of concrete problems or challenges that are still ambitious and interesting, yet not so open-ended. The goal of this panel is to formulate a set of such challenge pro...

Friendly Artificial Intelligence: The Physics Challenge

Relentless progress in artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly raising concerns that machines will replace humans on the job market, and perhaps altogether. Eliezer Yudkowski and others have explored the possibility that a promising future for humankind could be guaranteed by a superintelligent “Friendly AI” [1], designed to safeguard humanity and its values. I will argue that, from a phys...

Artificial Intelligence: An Empirical Science

My initial tasks in this paper are, first, to delimit the boundaries of artificial intelligence, then, to justify calling it a science: is AI science, or is it engineering, or some combination of these? After arguing that it is (at least) a science, I will consider how it is best pursued: in particular, the respective roles for experiment and theory in developing AI. I will rely more on history...

Artificial Intelligence: Art or Science?

Computer programs are new kinds of machines with great potential for improving the quality of life. In particular, expert systems could improve the ability of the small, weak and poor members of society to access the information they need to solve their problems. However, like most areas of computing, expert systems design is currently practiced as an art. In order to realise its potential it m...
